En effet, de nombreux d\u00e9bats ont port\u00e9 sur cette d\u00e9finition insaisissable \u2013 ainsi que sur la question de savoir si l\u2019utilisation du terme est m\u00eame appropri\u00e9e ou utile dans le contexte canadien et nord-am\u00e9ricain. N\u00e9anmoins, \u00e0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 les dirigeants politiques de partout au pays et sur le continent font souvent r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 l\u2019aide \u00e0 la \u00ab classe moyenne \u00bb, il est important d\u2019identifier les Canadiens qui <em>se sentent<\/em> de la classe moyenne \u2013 car ils sont le public de ces appels.<\/p>\n<p>Notre \u00e9tude r\u00e9v\u00e8le qu\u2019au niveau \u00ab instinctif \u00bb, les trois quarts (76 %) des Canadiens s\u2019identifient mod\u00e9r\u00e9ment ou fortement \u00e0 la classe moyenne. Pourtant, lorsqu\u2019ils sont forc\u00e9s de choisir leur \u00ab classe \u00bb parmi une hi\u00e9rarchie de 4 cat\u00e9gories, moins de la moiti\u00e9 (43 %) des Canadiens d\u00e9clarent cette identification de classe. Ainsi, les r\u00e9f\u00e9rences g\u00e9n\u00e9rales et les appels \u00e0 la classe moyenne trouveront un auditoire parmi la plupart des Canadiens. Toutefois, si la discussion se transforme en un examen d\u00e9taill\u00e9 de l\u2019identit\u00e9 de classe, une proportion importante de Canadiens se sentiront exclus de ces appels.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bien qu\u2019un peu moins de la moiti\u00e9 (48 %) des Canadiens soient optimistes quant \u00e0 l\u2019avenir de la classe moyenne, la confiance dans la mobilit\u00e9 sociale personnelle (57 %) et descendante (68 %) demeure assez \u00e9lev\u00e9e. Cependant, les Canadiens qui s\u2019identifient comme pauvres (39 %) sont beaucoup moins susceptibles d\u2019avoir confiance en leur mobilit\u00e9 sociale personnelle que ceux qui s\u2019identifient comme membres de la classe ouvri\u00e8re (61 %) ou de la classe moyenne (61 %).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>En plus d\u2019\u00e9valuer comment le terme \u00ab classe moyenne \u00bb r\u00e9sonne avec les Canadiens, notre \u00e9tude explore \u00e9galement les points de vue du public sur leur fortune personnelle actuelle et \u00e0 long terme et leur statut g\u00e9n\u00e9rationnel comparatif. Dans l\u2019ensemble, nous avons constat\u00e9 que les Canadiens se sentent moins positifs \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard de leur situation financi\u00e8re personnelle.
