A third of Canadians hold negative, intolerant views of marginalized, minority groups

In Acceptance and Intolerance in Canada – our definitive, in-depth study of Canadian perceptions and attitudes regarding marginalized and minority groups in the country – we found that a third (33%) of Canadians hold explicitly negative, intolerant views of at least one group in society. However, we also found that an additional quarter (23%) of Canadians express somewhat more subtle forms of prejudice and bigotry.

A Majority (55%) of Canadians Prefer a Pharmacare Program that Complements rather than Replaces Existing Drug Plans

October 19, 2018 — The Neighbourhood Pharmacy Association of Canada’s new survey about pharmacare reveals that pharmacare is not a top-of-mind priority for Canadians. When asked, most (84%) Canadians support the concept in-principle. A majority (55%) prefer a program that focusses on providing coverage to those without, while maintaining existing drug plans.

Annual IFIC – Pollara Mutual Fund Investors Survey (2018) sees Highest Confidence in Mutual Funds in 13 Years of Tracking Research

September 27, 2018 — The Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) and Pollara Strategic Insights today released the full results of their 13th annual survey of mutual fund investors. Begun in 2006, this year’s wave sees mutual funds continue to outperform other financial products by a wide margin in terms of investor confidence in the product’s ability to help them reach their financial goals.

In Search of Canada’s “Middle Class”, Wave 4 (2018)

September 20, 2018 — At a time when political leaders across the country are making references to helping “The Middle Class”, our study finds that most (76%) Canadians feel Middle Class at a “gut” level, but that just 43% report this class identification when choosing their “class” from among a 4-category hierarchy. Thus, general references and appeals to the Middle Class will find an audience among most Canadians. However, if the discussion evolves into a detailed consideration of class identity, a significant proportion of Canadians will feel left out of those appeals.
