June 12, 2025 – With Canada set to host the G7, Pollara finds Canadians’ net sentiment towards the United States has plummeted from +13 (positive minus negative) a year ago to -47 today. However, Canadians are still feeling positive towards all other G7 countries.
| Country | Canadian Net Sentiment |
Canadian Positive Sentiment |
Canadian Negative Sentiment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Italy | +66 | 76% | 10% |
| Japan | +65 | 76% | 11% |
| UK | +58 | 73% | 15% |
| France | +57 | 73% | 16% |
| Germany | +54 | 70% | 16% |
| United States | -47 | 24% | 71% |
These positive feelings are mutual with respect to the UK, as a Pollara survey among British adults shows 84% are positive towards Canada and only 7% are negative – significantly higher than for all other countries tested.
Mark Carney’s personal connection to the UK might also be an asset for Canada, as a relatively high 60% of British adults are familiar with Carney. Among them, 80% are positive and 12% are negative towards Carney – a higher net positive rating than for 9 other world leaders tested.
Canada and the UK are largely aligned about how they feel about other countries, with positive sentiment in both countries towards European G7 allies and Ukraine, and negative sentiment towards the US, Russia, and China.
However, there are diverging views on India, with sentiment skewing more positive in the UK and more negative in Canada.
