September 23, 2025 — Pollara’s Trump Tracker shows only 25% of Canadians expect President Trump would respect a new Canada-US trade agreement, while 64% expect he would break one.

Canadians still show confidence in Canada’s Prime Minister amidst these trade negotiations, with 48% approving and 36% disapproving of Mark Carney’s handling of Canada-US relations. Approval of provincial governments is also largely positive – with the exception of Alberta, where Danielle Smith’s approach has led to a net negative approval of her government’s handling of Canada-US relations (approve 36% / disapprove 48%).

This comes as Canadians are feeling the effects of tariffs: the majority of Canadians say tariffs have had a negative impact on their day-to-day life (61%) and on the Canadian economy (78%).
