October 17, 2026 — As election day approaches in Alberta, 76% of decided voters plan to vote to remain in Canada versus 24% who plan to vote to begin the process of separation. Only 3% of voters are still undecided and only 7% are open to changing their mind before election day.
Those voting to separate are split on whether they are doing this because they want Alberta to become an independent country (47%) or because they want to send a message to the federal government to take Alberta more seriously (50%).
Turnout is the hanging question, but we find 86% of mail-in ballots went to remain.
When reflecting on the referendum process, seven in ten (70%) Albertans feel the referendum has been “a waste of time and money” and only 37% believe this will put the question of separatism to bed once and for all – a sentiment shared by both remain (37%) and separate (40%) voters.
