July 14, 2025 — The Weather Network is Canada’s most trusted media organization for the third consecutive year on Pollara’s annual Trust in Media study (73% trusted). This study also finds high levels of trust in major TV networks CBC (72% trusted), CTV (67% trusted), and Global (65% trusted).
Consumption of most media outlets is up during what has been a very “newsy” year so far. We also see an increase in trust scores for most media outlets, with the Canadian Press leading the way with a 10-point increase in their trust score from last year.
This edition of Pollara’s “Trust in Media Study” takes a special look at political news, in the context of the recent federal election. We find that younger and older voters were living in different media ecosystems during the election. Boomers (and older voters) relied heavily on traditional media, especially television news (73% got election news via TV). However, only 26% of Gen Z voters got their election news via TV – less than the share of Gen Z voters who got news from Instagram (31%) or Tik-Tok (31%).
