October 28, 2026: Pollara’s annual Global Perspectives survey finds Canadians remain cool to the United States and are instead turning their eyes towards other allies, including Europe. While three times more Canadians feel negatively (70%) than positively (23%) about the United States, two-thirds (67%) feel positively towards the European Union, versus 14% who feel negatively.
Canadians’ feelings towards Europe go beyond good vibes: 76% support a partnership between Canada and the European Union to coordinate on trade and security. Support is lower when asked about Canada joining the EU, but 58% still support this versus 21% opposed.
However, when presented with details about potential consequences of EU membership, support falls to 50% and opposition rises to 36%.
