May 24, 2024 — A new Pollara survey shows that former Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi remains the most popular NDP leadership candidate among Albertans, with over twice as many Albertans feeling positively (44%) rather than negatively (21%) towards him.
Even though Nenshi started the race relatively well known, since declaring his candidacy in February, Nenshi has increased his familiarity levels more than any of the other candidates. Over this time, his positives have risen 3 points with his negatives down a point.
While Nenshi is currently the best known and most liked candidate with the Alberta general public, this survey shows the other candidates have the potential to make a good impression as they introduce themselves to voters. After survey respondents were shown the first minute of candidates’ intro videos, Nenshi still generated the most positive emotions (59% positive), but his gap over Sarah Hoffman (54%) and Kathleen Ganley (54%) narrowed considerably.
