April 15, 2024 – Today, Food Banks Canada released their Election Report, based upon public opinion research conducted on their behalf by Pollara Strategic Insights. The study found that almost all (92%) Canadians feel that no one in Canada should ever have to go hungry. To this end, most (88%) feel that Canada should have clear targets to address hunger and food insecurity, and 86% support a goal of cutting hunger and food insecurity in half by 2030.
Those are some of the findings of Food Banks Canada’s newly released Election Report, based upon a survey conducted by Pollara between April 1st and 6th, 2025. A bilingual online survey was conducted amongst a randomly selected sample of N=1,043 Canadian adults aged 18 and over. As a general guideline, a probability sample of this size carries a margin of error of ±3.1%, 19 times out of 20. However, the margin of error is larger when analyzing sub-segments of the population. To ensure the results accurately reflect the demographic composition of the Canadian adult population, the data was weighted according to the most recent Census figures for language, gender, age, and region.
The survey also found that most Canadians feel that Canada has the resources to significantly reduce hunger and food insecurity (86%), and that – regardless of political views – hunger and food insecurity should be a top priority (84%).
