July 6, 2027 – Fresh polling by Pollara Strategic Insights offers a reminder of how disconnected most Canadians are from federal politics, with just 57% of Canadians able to name the leader of the federal Conservative Party and only 12% able to name the leader of the federal NDP. This leaves Avi Lewis with much to do this summer when it comes to introducing himself to voters, especially in Quebec where just 3% are able to name him.
This lack of familiarity is not unique to opposition leaders. Rather, it reflects that most Canadians do not follow federal politics closely. Indeed, only 24% of Canadians are able to name a cabinet minister, and the majority of ministers are named by fewer than 1% of Canadians.
The most recalled ministers are long-time ministers in big portfolios: Melanie Joly (14%), Anita Anand (9%), Dominic LeBlanc (9%), and François-Philippe Champagne (8%).
No other ministers were named by more than 2.5% of survey respondents nationally, though some have regional profile.
